UARS satellite was expected to plummet down to Earth Friday afternoon but according to the latest updates, changes in bus-size satellite’s trajectory may delay its crash to early Saturday.
“The motion geommetry of the tumbling satellite apparently changed and that makes its fall slower than thought,” NASA revealed in an update on Friday. “There is minimal probability for any debris to crash-land over US but the possibility is not entirely disregarded due to the continuous changin rate of the descent”.
Around 26 large components of the satellite are believed to survive re-entry though Terra’s atmosphere and smash on the ground. The largest piece would be 136 kilogrammes in weight.
