Bill Cooke, head of NASA’s Meteoroid Environments Office at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama., analyzed preliminary data on the fireball, outlined some estimations on the dimension of the “space intruder” and unveiled the information in an email sent to Space.com:
“The strong sonic noise reveals that this rock was able to penetrate quite low in [the] atmosphere, which involves a speed less than 15 km/s (33,500 mph). Based on this speed, I calculated a mass for the meteor of about 70 metric tons. Supposing a guess density of 3 grams per cubic centimeter (solid rock), I estimate that the rock had a size of 3-4 meters, that’s the dimension of a minivan.”

Mr. Cook provided also some details on the unleashed energy as the meteor passed through atmosphere:
