Photos: Collision of Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies to bring end of our world?

According to NASA researchers, Milky Way and its neighbouring galaxy Andromeda will crash into each other in about 4 billion years from now, but the Earth is very likely to emerge unscathed from the cosmic collision.
The announcement was made by NASA astronomers at a press conference on Thursday and their prediction was based on data provided by the Hubble Space Telescope.

Because of the large distances between the stars of the two galaxies, Earth and Sun will survive the collision, which will last for around two billion years. After this period, our solar system will be cast into a different region of the universe (away from Milky Way core) and “we” will see different stars on the sky at night. Preliminary calculations revealed that Andromeda will smash into Milky Way at a ferocious rate of about 250,000 miles per hour (402.000 km/h) and it is thought that a 3rd tinier galaxy named the Triangulum will also participate into the collision and could subsequently be part of the Milky Way – Andromeda mixing. Andromeda, known also under the codename M31, is currently located at 2.5 million light-years away.
The astronomers employed high resolution cameras to take data that proved to be essential in understanding the movement of Andromeda.
It is known that the universe is under continuous expansion and acceleration, therefore collisions between neighbor galaxies can occur due to the gravitational force from dark matter around them.
