Neil Armstrong, the American astronaut who became the first man to walk on the moon back in 1969, passed away on Saturday (25 Aug. 2012). He was 82.

Armstrong had undergone a heart-bypass surgical operation on 7 August, two days after his 82nd birthday, to relieve 4 blocked coronary arteries.
The legendary spaceman died following complications resulting from cardiovascular procedures, his family revealed in a statement. The place where he died has not been unveiled so far.

As a commander of the Apollo 11 mission, Neil Armstrong landed the lunar spacecraft on the moon on July 20, 1969 at 2.56 a.m. During his walk on Moon’s surface, Armstrong radioed back the famous words: “That’s a small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind”.
